The key components of a solar system are the solar PV (photovoltaic) panels, mounting system, wiring, inverter, batteries (optional when on the grid/main electricity system), and a meter. Most houses in the world if they had their roof covered in solar PV panels would have enough energy to supply all of the needs throughout the year. As the price of solar PV continues to fall and the price paid for non-renewables (fossil fuels) climb we can expect to reach "parity" between the two prices in the next five to ten years.
